Overhead Crane Specialist - Nationwide

Salary £40000-£45000 DOE
Hours Monday – Thursday 8-5, Friday 8-2 + overtime

We are currently working with one of the UK’s leading independent overhead crane manufacturer and service provider. Employing over 60 service engineers from their sites nationwide, they provide technical services to some of the world’s largest companies in aerospace, steel manufacturing and critical infrastructure sites such as power and water.  

 
Due to the continued growth of their already established, service and repair customer base, they are seeking Crane Specialists to operate from their Midlands branch to perform inspections, repairs, maintenance, and modernisation of all types of overhead cranes, hoists and lifting equipment. 

 

You will have extensive knowledge and experience of overhead cranes and hoist units.  You will work as part of a team in a friendly working environment. Your role will involve reasonable travel throughout the local area and the UK. 

 
Essential Requirements 

  • A background in electrical, mechanical, or electromechanical engineering. 

  • A current UK driving licence. 

  • Minimum 5-6 years of working with a variety of overhead cranes. 

  • Good interpersonal skills for customer relations. 

  • The ability to work at heights responsibly with a positive attitude towards health and safety. 

  • Self-motivated with the ability to adapt to overcome technical challenges. 

  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends as per business requirements. 

  • You must be physically fit and able to work at heights. 

  • Good English speaking and writing skills. 

 

Preferential Requirements 

  • Ability to investigate and repair a variety of overhead crane and hoist components in varying customer locations. 

  • Electrical experience of 3 phase 415vac motors, squirrel cage and wound rotor, contactor control circuits, 110/48-volt relay and contactor circuits, stop and reset circuits, and some frequency speed/inverter control device experience. 

  • Mechanical experience of medium to large drive couplings, brakes, and reduction gearboxes. 

  • Excellent fault finding and diagnostic skills. 

  • Experience with overhead crane maintenance and inspection routines preferred. 

  • Experience with industrial radio control systems. 

  • Knowledge / Experience of vacuum lifting equipment, manipulators, electro magnets or other material handling equipment. 

  • C1 Driving licence beneficial.

The basic working week comprises of 40 hours with regular premium rate overtime available. The overtime rate is paid on travel and can be booked home to home in most cases. Additional bonus payments for aggressive environments and specialist sites. 

 

You will be required to form part of an emergency call out rota for which standby bonus is provided and then if called out the hours are paid at double time. Please note, there is an expectation that all engineers will cover call-out on a rotational basis. 

 
Company contributing pension scheme and life and accident insurance is also provided. 

Holiday entitlement begins with 28 days paid annual leave; this entitlement increases with the length of service. 

Personal use of the company vehicle and reasonable personal use of the company phone is permitted.

Field Service Engineer - Nationwide

Salary £37,500 - £43,000 DOE
Hours Mon - Thurs 8-5 Fri 8-2 + On Call Rota

Permanent Positions - Field Service Engineers

Monday – Thursday 8-5, Friday 8-2 + overtime + Weekend availability required. 
 
We are currently working with an established mechanical handling company based in the West Midlands. Due to significant growth, they now require 2 Field Service Engineers. 
Reporting directly to the Service Director, the Field Service Engineer’s responsibilities will include: 

  • Servicing, repairing, or installing overhead cranes and jibs, mainly in industrial factories. 

The ideal candidate for the Field Service Engineer will: 

  • Have 5 years or more experience within a similar industry. 
  • Hold a full valid UK driving licence. 
  • Have great fault-finding skills. 
  • Have a great working attitude. 
  • Be very customer focussed. 
  • Have a good mechanical/electrical background. 
  • Be expected to work on an on-call rota. 

In return the Field Service Engineer can expect to work a 40-hour week, Monday to Friday, receive a competitive salary dependant on experience.  As the company work 24/7 there will be an on-call rota, where bonus payments are paid for being on standby as well as call out payments paid at 4hours x double time, a top of the range Ford Transit Custom van, occasional nights out will be required, where accommodation and breakfast are paid for with a £45 combined payment for lunch and dinner. Bonus payments are also paid for working at specific sites, which may be particularly smelly or dirty.  
You will be given a weeks’ induction at Head Office in the West Midlands, then progress to shadowing other established engineers before working solo. 
The locations we are recruiting for are with a reasonable distance to: 
Glasgow, Edinburgh 
Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Carlisle 
Hereford or Ross on Wye 
 
These roles are permanent positions, subject to 6-month probationary period.

Quality Inspector - Redditch

I am currently working with a well-established manufacturing business based in Redditch.  Due to growth, they now have a requirement for a Quality Inspector to join their existing Quality team based on the shop floor, working on the standard dayshift pattern.

 

Reporting directly to the Quality Manager, the Quality Inspector will be responsible for:

  • Conducting inspection of springs, wireforms and assemblies using a variety of manual inspection equipment.
  • Completing 1st off and final inspection procedures.
  • Creating and follow inspection plans based on engineering drawings.
  • Collaborating with other departments to review internal and external non-conformance.
  • Generating detailed inspection reports documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Identifying potential quality issues and proactively suggest corrective actions.
  • Participating in the continuous improvement of quality control processes.
  • Communicating effectively with production personnel and engineers regarding inspection results.

The ideal candidate for the Quality Inspector role will have:

 

  • A good knowledge of inspection equipment.
  • The ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Gained previous experience in a similar role, working in an Aerospace/Automotive environment.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in quality control or a related field.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of Root Cause Analysis (ie. Fishbone, 8D, 5Y).
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (or similar software).
  • Conversant with the requirements of AS9100 and NADCAP and familiar with the requirements of SABRe.
  • A formal qualification in Quality or be keen to obtain one.

In return the Quality Inspector can expect to receive a competitive salary, 25 days + bank holiday entitlement and free onsite parking.  The working hours for this role are on a straight day shift, which are: 08:00 – 17:00 Monday to Thursday, and 08:00 – 13:00 Friday.  A degree of flexibility will be expected if there is the requirement to cover other shifts in the case of holidays or sickness.  The role is permanent and is weekly paid.

I am currently working with an engineering business based in Grays, Essex who are a sub-contract sheet metal working company.  Due to growth and an influx of work, they now have a requirement for a Laser & Press Brake Setter/Operator to join their existing team on the shop floor.

Reporting directly to the Production Manager, the Laser & Press Brake Setter/Operator will be using Trumpf and Bodor Lasers and Bystronic press brakes of 80T and 160T; ; however, if you have knowledge or experience of other lasers or press brake machines cross-training can be given. 

The ideal candidate for the Laser & Press Brake Setter/Operator role will have:

  • A good knowledge of laser setting and press brake machines.
  • The ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Gained previous experience in a similar role.
  • Good communication skills.

We are working with a manufacturing client in Redditch who, due to massive growth, are seeking a Tooling Engineer to join their existing team.

Reporting to the Operations Manager the Key Responsibilities of the Tooling Engineer will include but not be limited to:

  • The manufacture and maintenance of press tools, jigs, and fixtures
  • Utilising traditional toolroom equipment and operating Wire Erosion/EDM machines.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment within the toolroom.
  • Programming and operating EDM machinery using CAD programs.

The ideal candidate for the Tooling Engineer will have the following Experience and Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferably automotive or aerospace.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • CAD experience - any package
  • Be PC Literate
  • Have good verbal and written communication skill.
  • Have good attention to detail.
  • Manual machinery - Bridgport, grinding etc experience.
  • Have a minimum 4-5 years' work experience within a tooling environment.
  • Hold a relevant Manufacturing/Engineering qualification or have considerable practical experience in a similar environment.

In return, the Tooling Engineer can expect to receive a competitive salary and package, work a 39 hour week – working hours can be flexible with start times, between 6 and 8.
